Dear Math Fans and Partners

We bring you here a very cool PowerPoint Presentation to use with Microsoft Mouse Mischief! We already posted on this blog a resource like this one before.

For those who don't remember here is a brief description of what is Mouse Mischief and the link to download it.

Mouse Mischief integrates into Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, letting you insert questions, polls, and drawing activity slides into your lessons. Students can actively participate in these lessons by using their own mice to click, circle, cross out, or draw answers on the screen.

Here is the resource.

Η Έλενα ήθελε να αγοράσει ένα φόρεμα για το γάμο της ξαδέρφης της. Της άρεσε πολύ ένα που βρήκε άλλα της φάνηκε ακριβό, 250 ευρώ. Ευτυχώς είχε εκπτώσεις και στη βιτρίνα του καταστήματος η ταμπέλα έγραφε 40% κάτω από την αρχική τιμή. Πόσο ήταν το ποσό της έκπτωσης; Πόσο πλήρωσε τελικά η Έλενα για το φόρεμα;

Αν ο μισθός της Έλενας είναι 800 ευρώ το μήνα, θα θεωρούσατε το φόρεμα φθηνό ή όχι;

These days it’s the sales period in Greece. Given the financial problems that the market faces we can find, in some cases, high quality products in low prices. Thus, we decided our math problem to be related with discount.

Elena wanted to buy a new dress because she was invited to her cousin’s wedding. She found a dress she really loved but it was quite expensive, 250 euro. Luckily it was sales period and the shop’s window had a big label “40% off the original prices”. How much was the discount? How much did Elena pay for the dress?

If Elena’s salary for the month was 800 euro, do you consider the dress’s price cheap or not?
