No dia seguinte, levou todos os seus berlindes para a escola e quando lá chegou reparou que, pelo caminho, tinha perdido 9 berlindes, uma vez que no seu saco já só tinha 18. Quantos berlindes tinha o Ricardo no início?
Ricardo gave half of his marbles to his friend Miguel, but when he got home, his mother had a bag with 25 marbles to offer him. On the following day, he took all his marbles to school and when he arrived he noticed that, along the way, he had lost 9 marbles, as in his bag he only had 18. How many marbles had Ricardo at the beginning?

Antes de ter perdido 9 tinha 27, porque 18+9=27 mas como a mãe lhe deu 25 então fiz 27-25=2, então ele tinha 4 porque 2+2=4.

18=1/2x + 25 - 9 (sabemos que ficou com 18 berlindes no final, por isso vai ser o nosso resultado final, depois sabemos que ele deu metade do que tinha, adicionamos 25, pois foi o que a mãe lhe deu e sutbtraimos 9 que foi os que ele perdeu. Agora só falta resolver a equação!)

4 = x
Logo, no inicio, o Ricardo tinha 4 berlindes.
