Studying the Forest

From this story we wrote in the classroom together, we produced a video with our drawings and from that, we decided to study some data related with fires in Portugal and Lisbon since 1980. As an Eco-School, we are always concerned with environment, so we used our Math skills and the fact that we are working tables and charts in the classroom to study a little bit about this problem we face every year in our country. Take a look at our study and think that you can use math in all the subjects you want. In this activity we worked Sciences, Environmental Education, Portuguese, English, ICT, Drawing, and of course Math.

We (Colégio Monte Flor) did the activity suggested by our friends from St. Edwards and these were the strategies we used to reach the solution for this problem.
Some used the table suggested in the problem, but most of us used drawings and diagrams to solve this investigation.

Swimming Pool Party

Vera invited ten friends to her new home which has a swimming pool. She asked them not to forget to bring towel and swimsuit.
When they arrived, seven friends brought a towel and five brought swimsuit. Of these, there were three who brought swimsuit and towel.
How many friends of Vera did not bring anything?
